Seggin Bees; Sweet skincare products including my favourite lip balm ever!

Louise Sheppard is the lady behind Seggin Bees. From Honey Fudge to soap bars, everything Louise sells is handmade using honey from the hives in her garden in Leominster, Herefordshire. Products can be purchased online and from the “In A Nutshell” shop in Leominster, and the Seggin Bees team can often be found at various local craft fairs where they will be happy for you to test, taste, and take home their produce and educate you about their little artisan business. Visit the website to see where they’ll be popping up next! http://www.segginbees.luston.org.uk/html

Today I’ll be focusing on their skincare products, starting with three popular soaps from the ever growing range! Seggin Bees are members of The Guild Of Craft Soap and Toiletry Makers. All of their soaps are crafted by hand using the tradition Cold Press Method, which is a natural, heat-free process which takes over a month. Their soaps are made using local ingredients, many of which are from their garden (you can’t get much more local than that!), including their own beeswax and honey, flowers, and herbs to provide natural texture, aroma, and nourishment. They are completely free from SLS, SLES, and Parabens, making them suitable for use on even the most sensitive skin types.

First up is the Dancing Bee Honeycomb Soap. This bar is presented in a pretty draw-string gift bag, tied with yellow ribbon and a cute little Bumble Bee bead – an ideal gift! The soap is moulded to resemble a piece of honeycomb, which not only looks interesting and attractive, but it also gives the bar an exfoliating surface which helps to cleanse the skin and gives you a mini-massage, excellent for soothing tired, achy muscles after a long day! I love to rub it on the shoulders and the back of the neck. It has a gentle formula that is kind enough to use all over the body and it’s strongly scented with sweet Herefordshire honey – delicious!

Dancing Bee Goats’ Milk, Honey and Calendula Soap is perfect for sensitive skin and those suffering from skin conditions as it contains anti-inflammatory Calendula. This clever ingredient helps sooth irritated skin, while honey and goats’ milk hydrates dry areas. This soap is well worth trying if you’re looking for a natural product to help improve conditions such as Eczema and Psoriasis, or if you have very sensitive or extremely dry skin. This pretty bar is flecked with Calendula petals and rustically presented – a true artisan beauty!

Dancing Bee Honey and Lemongrass Soap is my favourite of the three soaps I’m featuring today. I love products with sharp zing scents, and I also adore the aroma of honey, and this soap has both! It’s citrus fragrance is provided by refreshing lemongrass which helps to balance the skin and control sebum levels, excess shine, and blemishes. The reinvigorating scent is provides a perfect pick-me-up to help revive the senses, so it’s ideal for your morning skincare routine! The formula is also infused with nourishing honey to soften the skin, and exfoliating poppy seeds to buff away dry cells and reveal a glowing complexion. It’s non-floral scent makes it ideal for the guys and girls!

For sorry skin that’s in need of a little extra TLC, why not try Seggin Bees’ Dancing Bee Skin Balm? This hard-working product is ideal for soothing and repairing dry hands, irritated areas, and damaged skin. The waterproof formula contains a combination of skin-loving natural ingredients including beeswax, eucalyptus, fragrant rosemary, softening almond oil and olive oil, and healing tea tree. The solid balm melts into a creamy consistency on contact with the skin and is quickly absorbed.

Finally, my favourite Seggin Bees product, the Dancing Bee Lip Balm. It is honestly the best lip balm I’ve ever used, and I cannot rave about this little lip saviour enough! Everything about this balm is just perfect. It is presented as a stick (like a lipstick bullet), rather than in a tin, which I find much more useful as it’s easy to open and apply as they don’t jam (and are much more simple to use when you’ve got wet nails). Just a touch

goes a really long way. It has a super-soft, buttery texture which I just adore. It not only provides the lips with intense nutrients and fast deep hydration, but it also gives them a glossy sheen. The fact that this product is all natural means you don’t get any unpleasant scent or chemically taste, in fact you get rather the opposite! It gives the tempting scent of sticky sweet honey and doesn’t leave any taste on the lips. It’s creamy formula includes some of nature’s finest moisturisers; beeswax, cocoa butter, coconut oil, and Vitamin E. I fell in love with this balm from the first application, and I’m sure you will love it, too!

The Seggin Bees range also includes a number of delicious sweet treats such as their award-winning Honey Fudge, pots of yummy honey from their own hives, and tasty Honey Mustard. They also stock handmade bits and pieces for beehives which can all be found online.

Filberts Of Dorset; Skincare to bring you the goodness of brilliant beeswax!

© Tuesday T. Bryan
DO NOT USE IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION
Farmer and honey-lover Mark Rogers has been keeping bees on his West Dorset farm for a decade. His 100 hives house hard-working bees that produce much more than just delicious golden honey. The Filberts Of Dorset product range came about somewhat by accident. Beeswax, a versatile ingredient that works wonders on sorry skin, is a by-product of the hive. Mark was experimenting with combining wax, honey and pollen to cook up culinary treats, however it didn’t quite go to plan, and he realised the mixture of oils was much better suited to creating beeswax-based products for the home and body. By 2008 a small selection of products had hatched, and with Mark’s mother on board, Filberts Of Dorset was born! Since then, the Filberts team has expanded and the product range has grown. Available to purchase via the website is everything from pure Dorset Beeswax Bars to DIY Candle Rolling Kits. You can even buy seeds that grow into plants that bees just adore – sadly these hard-working wonders are on the decline, so scatter some seeds in your garden to produce BEE-autiful flowers to help furry little fellas near you!

I mainly want to discuss the Filberts Of Dorset body products which include luscious lip care, skin-saving salves, and buttery body balms. With products available for men, women and children, you’ll find something for all the family. You can even buy a kit to make your own lip balms at home (more about that later)!
For a great lip care all-rounder I recommend the West Country Lip Balm. This hard-working balm contains a mixture of skin-loving ingredients including vitamin E, propolis, honey, and of course beeswax! Not only does it heal and hydrate the lips in all weathers, Filberts also say it can be used to sooth sore skin. A great multi-tasker!
Missing the summer time? The dreary weather brings down our mood, and the cold air dries out the lips. Try a slick of Filberts Mint Choc Lip Balm to protect your lips from the harsh temperatures and bring you the sweet scent of summer. It’s combination of cooling tingly peppermint oil and it’s sweetly scented 20% raw cocoa butter content produce the smell of mint chocolate ice cream, and it even has the rich colour of chocolate! What could be more summery? It also contains nourishing coconut and almond oils, and caring vitamin E.
Filberts Of Dorset has combined zingy lime oil and creamy coconut oil to create their popular Lime & Coconut LipBalm that’s proved a hit with both men and women alike. It also contains softening almond oil, zesty bergamot oil, fruity avocado oil, and herby rosemary oil. The nutrient-rich formula is great for the skin and gives a bright, tropical scent.

One of my favourite scents (and flavours) is ginger, so Filberts Of Dorset’s Lemon & Ginger Lip Balm is just my cup of tea! It contains both lemongrass and lemon oil to keep you citrus-lovers happy, and a spicy hit of warming tingly ginger oil gives spicy depth and sensuality. It reminds me of ginger beer. Delicious!
"Use Filberts LUXURY LIP BALM alone or as a top coat
over matte lipsticks for a gorgeous shiny finish and
healthy hydration!"

LuxuryLip Balm is one for the ladies. This best-selling product looks and feels amazing on the skin. It deeply nourished the lips and gives them an attractive glossy finish and super smooth feel. Filberts’ latest addition, Rose Lip Balm, is based on the Luxury Lip Balm recipe. It also has a shiny finish and caring formula, but it has the added benefit of rose, geranium, and palmarose oils and has a floral aroma. Filberts suggest using this one over lipstick for a high-shine look!
If you’re the outdoorsy type you’ll need a strong all-rounder to battle the elements. Go for either Original Lip Balm or the West Country Lip Balm. These two have formulas made with The Great Outdoors in mind, so they’re perfect for the job! Apply to lips regularly (particularly before heading outside) to ensure you’re lips are kept in tip-top condition in all weathers. The Original Lip Balm has the highest beeswax content of all Filberts lip balms and will remain solid at high temperatures rather than melting away, making it ideal for travel. The West Country Lip Balm contains a healing combination of honey, vitamin E, tea tree, and propolis (an ingredient that protects bee hives from wind and rain), making it great for using on minor skin damage as well as the lips.

For super-sensitive skin try opting for something fragrance-free such as Filberts Unscented Moisturising Salve to sooth and hydrate the skin and lips without the risk of any irritation from added scent.

Tea tree oil is something of a wonder-product. Extracted from the leaves of the Melaleuca Alternifolia tree, this essential oil is widely used by the health and beauty industry. Filberts of Dorset have put it to work in the wonderful Tea Tree Salve. This antiseptic healing balm soothes and hydrates dry and irritated skin and helps to improve areas of damaged skin, bites, and stings. I also find it’s great for banishing blemishes and clearing up cracked lips. It’s available in two sizes – I have the smaller 7.4g tin which is perfect for popping in your handbag or taking on your travels.
Our hard-working hands need a hard-working product to keep dry skin at bay, and Filberts Of Dorset have a super solution! Rich in nourishing sweet almond and avocado oils, Filberts’ Hand Salve’s fabulous formula instantly rehydrates dry areas and deeply moisturises to provide long-lasting relief. It’s also waterproof so it won’t wash away when you clean your hands! It has a fresh herby aroma with a touch of sweetness provided by rosemary and citrus oils. Use on damp hands regularly to keep them hydrated, or on dry hands for a more intense treatment. I love to massage a touch into my cuticles before and after a manicure to keep them looking and feeling perfectly polished, but you can also use FilbertsCuticle Butter for this if you prefer something specifically for your nails.

It may not feel very warm outside at the moment, but summer will be here in no time at all – hooray! But it’s not quite time to break out the sandals just yet, so now is the perfect time to get your feel looking fabulous for when you don your flip flops. Get your tootsies in tip-top condition with Filberts Of Dorset’s phenomenal Foot Salve. It’s super-hydrating formula is packed full of foot-loving olive oil to soften the skin and refresh tired feet. This beautiful balm is also waterproof and has the sweet summery scent of citrusy orange and frankincense. Divine! For an intense overnight treatment I smother it all over my feet before bed then pop on some clean socks to wake up to glorious, sensually soft toes – so quick and easy!

LUSH; Poole's ethical skincare brand loved the world over. PHOTOS COMING SOON!

The LUSH shop and LUSH SPA in Poole.
This week I want to talk about the much-loved company, LUSH. Although no introduction is needed for this famous brand, I still want to give you some background information. As many of you will already know, it all started in the costal town of Poole in Dorset by founders Mark and Mo Constantine. This is where the first ever LUSH store was opened back in 1994, which now also houses the LUSH Spa (follow this link for treatments: https://www.lush.co.uk/products/treatments-0). Today, 20 years on, there are now LUSH stores in over 50 countries and the brand is loved worldwide. Every product on offer is handmade using vegetarian-friendly natural ingredients and safe synthetics. The LUSH team continue to fight their battle against animal-testing and do not deal with any companies who connect with animal-testing in any way to keep their products 100% cruelty-free. LUSH also
supports numerous charity projects and good causes around the world involved with animal welfare, human rights, and environmental conservation, and their heavenly Charity Pot hand and body lotion was created to help hard-working grassroots organisations in need of funding to continue their good work. All of the proceeds from Charity Pot sales go to projects supported by LUSH, and the idea has been so successful that it’s still going strong 7 years after being launched in 2007.

The Sunblock.
I’ve been a loyal LUSH customer for years, and I can’t help getting drawn into their high street shops when I smell the distinctive warming scent of their pungently fragranced array of natural produce, so I was rather thrilled when I was invited to an after-hours event at the LUSH shop at The Mall in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, earlier this year. I got to try out loads of exciting ethical products from the ever-changing range, both new to the market and best-selling “golden oldies”. I indulged in something of a mini-pampering session when I got to try some of their recently-released range of five Sun Care products – who would have thought sun protection could be so relaxing? The first product I tried was The Sunblock, and it was something like I’d never seen before. “Shower on your sun care” by smoothing this block of skin-loving goodness all over damp skin while you wash, then give yourself a rinse and pat dry. It smells fantastic, nourishes the skin, and it’s SPF30 will keep you protected
Million Dollar Moisturiser.
from harmful rays for hours. It costs less than £10 and lasts for ages, so it’s cheaper than most sunscreen products and is likely to last much longer, too! Next I tried the divine Million Dollar Moisturiser. As the name suggests, no expense has been spared making this luxurious facial moisturiser. It has a high SPF of 30, and contains top ingredients including honey, jojoba, Evening Primrose oil, Shea Butter, lavender, Rosewood oil, Almond, Organic Sesame oil, and even a touch of LUSH’s radiant Feeling Younger skin tint to give a the skin a youthful dewy glow. Finally I tried Sesame Suntan Lotion, my favourite product in the range. I think it was the delicious, captivating, nutty scent of this incredible product that made me fall in love with it instantly. The main aim of this sunscreen lotion is to
Sesame Suntan Lotion.
help you tan naturally whilst protecting you from damaging rays. It’s clever blend of ingredients help you to tan by increasing the skin’s melanin production. You can read more about LUSH’s sun care range and watch a helpful video demonstrating the products here: https://www.lush.co.uk/article/our-sun-care.

When I was at this intimate event, I also got to witness exactly how the popular Catastrophe Cosmetic fresh face mask is made and what goes into it, as well as take a pot of it home - a good move, as I became hooked and it’s now one of my favourite LUSH products. It’s packed with calming calamine, chamomile, and Irish Moss gel to sooth, soften and cleanse the skin. It also contains whole blueberries which have protective qualities and are full of antioxidants (and they smell fantastically fresh, too). My LUSH friend, Alys, is also a huge fan of this mask, and she told me she uses the blueberries dropping off as an indication that it’s time to wash off the product – a helpful tip! Another one of my favourite products is the sweet and scrubby Brazened Honey fresh face mask. I’m a lover of all things honey, and I enjoy the unique texture of exfoliating products, too, so this mask was made for people like me! It also contains stimulating ginger, which happens to be my favourite flavour and scent, and my hair colour, too. The blend of detoxifying ingredients awaken the senses and leave the skin feeling fresh, smooth, hydrated, and squeaky-clean. The exfoliating ground almonds will also buff away dry skin and the antiseptic blend of sage, rosemary, juniper berry, cardamom and clove will help banish imperfections and balance the skin leaving your face looking and feeling clear and healthy.

I hadn't tried LUSH’s Bubbleroons before attending this event, but I’m a huge fan of their bath melts and bathbombs, so I decided to give one a whirl. The first thing I must mention is that you can either use it in one go, or simply pull the two sections apart to get two cheeky baths out of it like I did – double the fun! There are a number of bubbleroon “flavours” to choose from, and I went for the bright orange Yuzu and Cocoa Bubbleroon. Crumble it into the tub under running water to fill your bath with lots of sweetly-smelling skin-loving bubbles and fill the air with an uplifting citrusy scent, boosting your mood and making you feel energized and raring to go. It also contains coconut oil and that wonder-product Shea Butter to moisturise your skin while you soak all your negativity away.

I also came home from the LUSH event with a big pot of African Paradise body condition. I just couldn’t resist it’s sweet chocolate-like scent! LUSH simply instruct you to use it “like you would a hair conditioner, but on your body”. Smooth it all over your body whilst showering, then rinse it off and gentle towel dry to leave you with deliciously-fragranced and highly-hydrated skin. The sweet smell comes from softening Shea Butter, a scent which I always link to chocolate for some reason. This product is not only great for your skin, but it also contains Moringa Oil produced by a SLush (Sustainable Lush) Fund project. Use this link to read more about the SLush Fund: https://www.lush.co.uk/tag/slush.

Happy Hippy.

DO NOT USE IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Now for a product that I’ve loved for years, Happy Hippy! I couldn’t possible not mention this mood-lifting best-seller. I’m sure many of you will have used it, or at least given it a little sniff in the shops! This versatile shower gel can be used to cleanse the body and hair, and it’s luscious lather leaves behind the awakening scent of zesty pink grapefruit. Frankincense and bergamot also give this cleansing gel an extra-zingy fragrance boost. Use it in the morning to give you a real “get up and go” spirit, or indulge with it in a citrusy bath when you’re feeling a little down in the dumps and need a pick-me-up to brighten your mood.
BIG Shampoo.
Sea Spray.
I’m a long-term lover of the LUSH shampoo bars, but I thought I’d try out something a little different this time and took home some Big Sea Salt Shampoo. As the name suggests, it contains sea salt - just reading those two words conjures up the smell of the British coastline for me. “Beach hair” is popular with lots of us, and the effect the seaside has on our hair is all to do with sea salt, which naturally makes our locks voluminous, bouncy, and full of life. This volumising shampoo also contains zingy lemon and lime to add healthy shine, protein-packed seaweed to nourish, and coconut oil to keep the hair soft and silky. It smells fresh, clean and slightly fruity, but not overly sweet. Just apply a touch to wet hair, work into a lather and rinse, just as you would with any other shampoo. Repeat the process for extra “oomph”! For the ultimate beachy hairstyle, finish your ‘do with one of my favourite products, Sea Spray Hair Mist. It too contains sea salt to add lift, and it also gives light hold for effortless natural style.

Dry shampoos have become all the rage in recent years. They’re now something of an everyday staple for most of us, not just festival-goers and party animals! Keep it natural with LUSH’s No Drought.  Squeeze the bottle to puff the powder onto dry hair, and then work it in with your fingers to leave your locks looking clean and fresh with a zingy grapefruit fragrance. Any excess powder can be easily removed by giving your hair a quick brush through after use. Moisture-absorbing talc and cornflour soak up excess oils and banish signs of greasy hair to give a clean matte finish. It’s great for popping in your handbag to give your hair a quick pick-me-up when it’s looking a tad unclean, and an absolute must-have for when you’re off on your travels!

I love LUSH’s range of hair styling products, but my favourite is probably Zest Hair Gelly (although it’s a close call between that and Sea Spray). This medium-strong hold gel has a fun unique texture, somewhat similar to their Shower Jellies. It contains uplifting organic orange juice and sweet wild orange oil which gives it a strong refreshing smell of oranges and a vibrant orange colour. Either dip your fingers in the pot, or, for a more fun application, tip the whole jelly into your hands and jiggle it about, then pop it back in the pot using the leftovers on your palms to style your hair. Apply the same way as you would with any other hair gel onto wet or dry hair to nourish, style, and give a wet-look high-shine finish with a long-lasting fresh orange scent. Less is more – a little of this stuff goes a long way making it excellent value for money.

I could go on forever about the extensive range of LUSH products, but the collection is seemingly endless and I’d be here a lifetime, so why not pick up a free brochure next time you’re in store instead? Remember that everything you buy is handmade with love and care, ethical, and natural, and helps to support charities and hard-working organisations all over the world to care for both your skin and your planet.

Peppy Galore; Fun, natural skincare from the bright City of Bristol!

In 2012, Jessi Frey founded Peppy Galore in Bristol, England. Jessi successfully made her own skincare to use for herself instead of commercial shop-bought products, and now her fun and effective range is available to us all! All Peppy Galore products are made with natural ingredients, suitable for vegans, free from nasty ingredients such as parabens and SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - click for more information). Peppy Galore never test on animals. It’s clear that Peppy Galore is a caring company when it comes to the environment as well as our skin. Not only is the packaging used fully recyclable, but their products are made using only 100% renewable gas and electricity.
Peppy Galore sell a great range of deliciously scented and prettily packaged body mousses, skin cleansers, hand care products, moisturisers, skin healing products, toners, tools and gifts sets, and all skin types are catered for. If you have super-sensitive skin, or maybe you suffer from skin problems like
eczema or psoriasis, you’ll find that all-natural products are the way forward. Many commercial brands use harsh chemicals and nasty manmade products that can do more harm than good. It’s not uncommon to suffer from unpleasant side-effects when these chemical-packed products are applied to our skin, and reactions usually show in the form of redness, irritation and itchiness, and breakouts.

I had the honour of experiencing some of Peppy Galore’s glorious delights; the Nurse Peppy Healing Hand Cream, and the Nurse Peppy Healing Balm. These are two great all-rounders for everyone to have on hand for when the skin needs a little extra TLC.
First up is the Nurse Peppy Healing Hand Cream. It’s designed to help care for the hands when they’re a feeling dry and damaged, and it’s great for moisturising and nourishing the nails, too. A little goes a long way – just a small amount from the practical pump dispenser is enough to provide the hands with all the hydration they need. As with all Peppy Galore products, it’s presented in funky stylish packaging that looks great anywhere. The smell of this product is simply amazing! The fragrance is clean, fresh, and engergising. I love zingy, citrusy scents, so the aroma this product gives of is perfect for people like me! Of course, nothing nasty is added to give this fantastic invigorating fragrance, it comes from the natural ingredients used to make

the product. I use it daily to keep my hands and nails in tip-top condition.
The Nurse Peppy Healing Balm is presented in a cute little heart-shaped tin, the ideal size for popping in your pocket or handbag. This award-winning versatile balm is perfect for providing instant intense nourishment and care when and where it’s needed most. Personally, I use it on my lips first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and throughout the day when required to prevent dryness and keep them soft and smooth. I also massage it into cuticles before and after a manicure. Why not use it to soothe troublesome areas such as elbows, knees, and feet? It can even be used to help nourish frizzy hair! This really is something of a wonder-product. Any product that can has multiple uses is a great way to save money and cut back on the amount of products you have, and compact packaging is ideal for travel, too. Again, it’s all-natural and great for all skin types.
