PHB Ethical Beauty; Natural and organic pioneering products handmade in the UK.

It’s not easy to find cosmetics that are completely natural, organic, and suitable for all skin types, so this week I’d like to introduce you to a relatively new business selling nothing but 100% ethical beauty products. Founded by Rose Brown, PHB Ethical Beauty launched their all-natural collection in 2012. The versatile range includes all kinds of amazing award-winning beauty, hair care, and skincare products for men and women, as well as gift sets and starter kits, all of which is handmade in the UK. Needless to say, PHB are against animal testing and all of their products are completely cruelty-free, but their products are also free from any animal products whatsoever and the company is registered with The Vegan Society UK. Their products are also free from alcohol, Parabens, SLS, and GM ingredients. Great care has even been taken in ensuring that the packaging is completely eco-friendly. Their products have won numerous awards, and the company has even been dubbed “The New Body Shop”. This truly is a caring-company!

I happen to be a complete beauty-addict (no surprise there), especially when it comes to make up. It’s not at all uncommon to have reactions to cosmetic products, especially if our skin is sensitive or we suffer from skin conditions. Did you know that up to 60% of what we put on our skin can be absorbed into the blood stream? Commercial products tend to be packed with synthetic substances and nasty chemicals, so it’s no surprise that unpleasant skin reaction occur so frequently when we apply them. If you’re concerned about the effects that commercial concoctions may be having on your skin, why not switch to something more natural? PHB Ethical Beauty sells everything you could possibly need to transform your mass-produced make up collection into a skin-loving beauty bliss (including cleansers and brushes).

If, like me, you’re a lover of mineral make up, I’d definitely recommend considering PHB’s Mineral Miracles collection. Everything in this range is free from dyes, chemicals, animal ingredients, alcohol, preservatives, gluten, fillers, oils, talc, and GM ingredients. It also contains sun protection and zinc oxide (a natural product which is great for treating acne), and is Vegan and Halal Certified.

I was lucky enough to try out one of PHB’s best-sellers, the All-In-One Natural Mascara. It’s available in two shades, black and brown (I went for black). This award-winning product is a great “go-to mascara” as it combines the benefits of lengthening and volume-boosting mascaras into one. It’s also kind to the eyes and waterproof - an excellent choice if you suffer from sensitive peepers! The fact that it rolls all these advantages into one product also makes it a great space-saver, so it’s ideal if you’re going travelling or just want to clean out your make up bag. It can also save you money, as you’ll just need the one mascara to achieve all the results! I like to wear two coats of mascara for extra length, volume, and drama. Some products flake and clump when you apply multiple coats, but I had no issues with this one! I found it to be quick-drying, clump and flake-free, easy to build up, smudge-proof, long-lasting, and the jet black colour is great beautifully defining the eyes.

I've added some photos below to show off the results that I achieved after applying two coats of PHB All-In-One Natural Mascara in Black.

NEW Avon Always On Point Eyeliner; Black; Review + photos! Unique "self-sharpening" liner is ready when you are...

"Creamy, smooth liner stays colour-true. With a sharpener in the patent-pending cap, so the tip is always sharp and ready for precise lines." - Avon (avonshop.co.uk)

Today I'm reviewing a fairly new product from Avon. It's an eyeliner called Always On Point, and is named so because it has a sharpener built into the lid to keep it sharp.

I'll be honest (as always), when I first saw this product advertised I thought it was quite pointless. It's very similar to Avon's Glimmerstick eyeliner, a hugely popular product that sells like hotcakes and comes in an impressive range of shades (I own about 10 products from the Glimmersticks range, and I'm not alone in being a massive fan). So, due to the Glimmerstick eyeliner being so successful, I initially thought this product was unnecessary. However, now that I've had the opportunity to give it a whirl, I can see it's benefits and it's differences from other Avon products, which I will explain to you now! :)

This new product is currently available in four shades; "Black", "Midnight Navy", "Lavender Grey", and "Teal". I own it in "Black", so that's the colour I'll be testing today. The rich formula is highly-pigmented with bold, saturated colour. A little goes a long way!

Let's talk about the product design. The idea of this product is that it never goes blunt due to it's "self-sharpening" ability. It has a screw-top lid with a built-in sharpener. When you think the liner is looking like it could do with being sharpened you simply place the lid on and turn it clockwise until you hear a "click" sound - voilĂ ! See the image on the left for "instructions in photos".The fact that it doesn't require a sharpener makes it ideal for my handbag - this is where I believe us ladies should try to keep beauty products and tools to a minimum, so the sleek, twist-up, all-in-one design that doesn't require tools or brushes is ideal for on-the-go.

Image - right: This "self-sharpening" liner makes applying your desired style easier. I always opt for the winged look.

Of course, a sharp eyeliner is essential for precise application. This product's "Always On Point" tip makes applying your desired eyeliner style quicker and easier. When I wear eyeliner I always opt for the winged look (see photo - right). It can also be blended and smudged easily to create different effects without looking messy, although I advise using a smudging tool to do this as the water-resistant formula is difficult to get off your fingers! Avon sell a dual-ended eyeshadow brush and smudger which I own and use successfully, and I also have a good quality smudger from Bobbi Brown. Sadly, I don't have any photos of this product when it's been smudged and blended, but I'll take some snaps and add them to this blog when I get a chance!

The soft, creamy consistency doesn't pull or drag the delicate skin around the eye area. The colour glides on easily and seems to "melt" onto the skin - there's no need for much more than the lightest pressure! It sits comfortably on the skin all day, and it doesn't feel thick or heavy. I also found that it didn't upset my easily-irritated waterlines.

My favorite thing thing about this product has got to be it's incredible staying-power. I applied my make up first thing in the morning and removed it about 12 hours later, and the colour stayed true and showed no signs of wear all day! The gorgeous heavily-pigmented black hue was just as strong at the end of the day as when it was freshly applied - impressive! There wasn't a transfer line or crease mark in sight. I felt confident that my liner was staying-put without showing signs of wear or losing it's boldness, which meant I didn't need to check my compact mirror every five minutes! It also applies really well to the waterline, a hurdle which many liners fall at, however it doesn't last as long as it does on the skin, so a few top-ups throughout the day may be required. All this staying-power, yet it's still easy to remove with make up remover or facial cleansing wipes (you'll find it difficult to remove with water alone as the waxy formula is water resistant!). I'm sure this product will be a make up miracle for a lot of you busy girls who are always on the go!

I'm glad that I had the opportunity to try this product and share my thoughts and results with you, otherwise I'd probably have dismissed it and stuck to the Glimmerstick range! It's a great all-rounder, and the "Always On Point" sharpener-lid is a brilliant bonus, but it's that impressive staying-power that wowed me the most. With Christmas just around the corner, a product with wear this good would be ideal for festive gatherings that continue all day and all night, and it would be great to slip in your clutch! Or what about buying it as a little stocking filler? Thanks, Avon!

Avon SuperExtend & SuperExtend Extreme Mascaras; review + photos

© Tuesday T. Bryan Photography
DO NOT USE IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION. Copyrighted material
Today I'm reviewing 2 of my all-time favorite mascaras; Avon SuperExtend Mascara and Avon SuperExtend Extreme Mascara, both in "Black". As always, I've included photos of the results so you can see it for yourself, and I've added a photo of the 2 brushes so you can see the difference between the original product and the jazzed-up "Extreme" version (click photos to enlarge).
Image - right: Avon SuperExtend Mascara and Avon SuperExtend Extreme Mascara are 2 of my favorite lash-lengthening products.

First of all, let me tell you why I opt for mascaras with a lash-lengthening formula. I'm pleased with my lashes - they're thick, healthy and dense - but their short/medium length lets them down a little. I love the way that long, lifted lashes make the eyes appear more open. So, I always curl my lashes with eyelash curlers for lift, and I add a lengthening mascara for length. Sometimes I apply a volumising mascara as a "base coat" for extra drama, but I haven't done that in the photos for this review, as I just want to show the results of the Avon SuperExtend mascaras. I used to wear false lashes pretty much all the time, but I got fed up of the nightmare of removing the eyelash glue every night!

When Avon sent me these mascaras I couldn't wait to try them out. They're now among my "everyday mascaras" - I'm actually almost out of SuperExtend Extreme, you might be able to see it's looking a little dry from the mascara wand photos (see end of blog)!

So, without further ado, let's move on to the results. :)

Avon SuperExtend Mascara - Black: This is the original SuperExtend Mascara. It's only available in "Black" - if you want more shades, opt for SuperExtend Extreme Mascara (below), which comes in "Brown/Black" and "Navy", too. As you can see from the photos, one coat adds some length, but for top results it's best to apply two coats (see photos - below). The formula is packed with lash-lengthening fibers that interlock with every sweep, making lashes appear up to 55%* longer. The slim wand has is made up of plastic bristles that taper to a point - this allows helps to coat the lashes with the right amount of product, and makes it easier to apply to the corner and bottom lashes (see "mascara wand" photo - below). It makes the lashes appear longer, gives a touch more volume, and has a clump-free result.

Avon SuperExtend Extreme Mascara - Black: This is a newer, updated version of the original SuperExtend Mascara. It's available in three shades ("Black", "Brown/Black", and "Navy"), and, as usual, I have it in "Black"! I'm very impressed with the result that just one coat gives, but I like to wear two coats for even more length and volume. It's long-wearing and flake-proof, so there's no need to worry about topping it up over the day. The thick "lash-lifting brush" is made up of dense plastic bristles that coat each lash with the perfect amount of product, and gives a separated and clump-free finish (see "mascara wand" photo - below). It makes lashes appear lengthened and voluminous, so it's a great all-rounder!

This image shows the the differences between the packaging, and, more importantly, the mascara wands.

So, if you're looking for a product to add dramatic length to your lashes, these mascaras are definitely worth a try! They're both Avon products that I could not live without. I'm one of the huge number of people who have given these mascaras great ratings, and I'm sure you will be, too!

Barry M Lash Modelling Extra Black Mascara - review + photos

© Tuesday T. Bryan Photography
DO NOT USE IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION. Copyrighted material

I haven't yet reviewed any Barry M products, so I thought it was high time I shared my thoughts on the fabulous Lash Modelling Extra Black Mascara!!!

First off, it has comes in attractive "almost-monochrome" packaging with a pretty vintage-inspired scallop-style pattern around the bottom. Very chic. ;)

© Tuesday T. Bryan Photography
DO NOT USE IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION. Copyrighted material
...I've just noticed it looks entirely monochrome as I've made the photo black & white - my bad. The word "Lash" is written in purple in reality. Comprendeo? Wicked. Let's move on...

Barry M say this mascara "defines and separates the lashes", and I agree! The plastic "comb" applicator has short bristles at the tip and longer ones at the base to coat each lash with the perfect amount of product, giving an even, clump-free result. Barry M do not say that this product will lengthen your lashes, but it defiantly added length to mine. One coat gives a good result, but two coats looks great! I like to wear two coats for extra volume and double the drama (see photo). I correct any mess with a cotton bud and my Simple Kind To Eyes Eye Make-Up Remover (click to view on the Simple website).

The only complaint I have is this: Over the course of my looong days, the volume that the mascara gives when first applied seems to deplete a little. If you try to apply more product onto your lashes it seems to flake quite easily. I believe this flaking is largely due to the plastic brush - their lash-separating quality and clump-free result is fantastic, but mascara seems to flake more easily when layered with these now commonly-used rubber applicators. Anyway, I still love this product!

This mascara is not waterproof - avoid beaches, rain, and tears.

I'm one of the countless fans of Barry M's quirky, colourful, exciting products and tiny price tags! You definitely get a lot of bang for your buck, and this product is no exception.

☆No7 Stay Perfect Nail Colour x2 + free No7 Beauty Bag; review + photos☆

© Tuesday T. Bryan Photography
DO NOT USE IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION. Copyrighted material
When I went to Boots the other day I saw this offer on and I couldn't resist it; buy 2 No7 products and get a free Beauty Bag, worth £30. I've always loved No7 with a passion, and this deal was a dream!!! So, I bought myself (or rather, my partner bought me) 2 Stay Perfect Nail Colours and claimed my free goodies.

Rather than just reviewing the nail polishes I want to share my thoughts on the Beauty Bag - a nice cosmetics bag filled with 5 trial-size summer products (eyeshadow, lip gloss, mascara, tinted moisturiser, primer). They're all available to buy as full-size products, too.

I'm mad about No7, so I can feel good results coming on...

Let's start off with my 2 chosen shades of Stay Perfect Nail Colour. It was love at first sight when I laid eyes on a new shade called "Paradise Love". I was torn between 3 polishes for me second choice, but I finally decided on "Jammy" as I thought my polish collection could do with a new hot pink for the summer. :)

Paradise Love is a soft yet captivating shimmery sky blue shade, packed full of blue glitter and silver sparkles. I fell in love with how pleasantly unique the colour is, it's like no shade I've seen before. It's fun and imaginative, yet still perfectly sophisticated - a great polish for any occasion! The bottle says it has an "ultra-gloss" finish, but really it's pearlescent when dry. The photos show the polish with and without my Rimmel Ultra Shine Top Coat.

Jammy is a bright, nearly-neon, metallic hot pink. It's fun, flirty and girly, and has a high-shine glossy finish. It's bang on for an eye-catching summer manicure or pedicure, perfect for those long days on the beach lounging in the sunshine - as you can see by the photo, I opted for the sexy shade on my toes. A must-have shade for the summer!!!

No7 Stay Perfect Nail Colour is quick-drying and has great staying-power. I'd recommend their hard-wearing formula to everyone, especially ladies with a tight schedule who can't be doing with constant polish touch-ups. I always use Avon Nail Experts Gel Strength Base Coat to further prolong the colour.

Let's move on the the Beauty Bag. I always get excited about the No7 deals, they're defiantly worth taking advantage of!!! I will write my notes about each product and give you links and prices of the full-size products individually.

If you get these products in the deal, they'll come in a handy cosmetics bag. It's mainly transparent which is practical for seeing what's where, it's plastic which is easy to wipe clean, and it's colourful so it looks fab. :)

No7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow in Pale Pink - I have a fair amount of this eyeshadow now, it's great stuff! The shade included in the Beauty Bag is called Pale Pink (I have to point out how annoying it was having to look up the shade online - it wasn't written on the product, or in store, or on the Beauty Bag contents list - God knows why). It's a pale opalescent "shell" pink, although it looks like a lilac shade in the compact. It's very delicate and feminine, great for subtlety shimmery summer eyes.
I do like the shade a lot, all though it's not one I'd

usually go for and I don't think I'll really wear it as I always wear neutral earthy tones. It has a cashmere-soft velvety texture, and great-staying power with no signs of creasing.

No7 High Shine Lip Gloss in Coral Kiss - It's amazing how many people forget to care for their skin in the sun, let alone their lips!!! This gorgeous gloss contains SPF15 and has a moisture-rich consistency, so "collagen boosting" for a "voluptuous smoothing shine", and contains "vitamins that protect and care".
you'll be protected from the rays and dry lips. I love this highly-pigmented nude/pink shade with just a touch of shimmer, a winner for subtle summer lips. It's moisturising formula and high-shine finish leaves your lips looking fabulous and kissably soft!!! No7 say it's

No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara in Black - All ladies know that a waterproof mascara is a
summer must-have. If you haven't got one in your make up bag yet then look no further! I've always been a massive fan of the No7 mascaras, and I actually already own the Extreme Length Mascara, but it's the full-size non-waterproof version. This product has fabulous all-day wear, come rain or shine. The plastic brush with multi-length bristles perfectly coats each lash, lengthening and separating them fabulously. One coat does a great job, but it layers up without clumping or flaking. The photos show my lashes after one coat and after two. As you can see, two coats gives a super-glamorous result with fantastic volume and drama - my preferred look. ;)

No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara is available for £12.50 from Boots stores or online at http://www.boots.com/.
Click here to view No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara on the Boots website.

No7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser in Fair/Medium - This is another summer must-have!!! Heavy make up looks dreadful in the heat, so swap it for a tinted moisturiser, a super-light foundation, or a BB Cream. Sun exposure can be very damaging to the skin, and also speeds up the aging process. Absolutely make sure your chosen summer foundation product contains an SPF, but don't rely on the sunscreen in your make up alone to keep your face protected from the rays. This No7 Tinted Moisturiser contains SPF15 and has 5-Star UVA protection. It's suitable for all skin types, too. I thought the fair/medium shade would be too dark for my freckled porcelain skin tone, but it blends and adapts effortlessly. It gave my skin a glorious natural dewy glow, and toned-down imperfections. No7 say: "Light diffusing tinted moisturiser delivers all day hydration and protection".

No7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser is available for £11.50 from Boots stores or online at http://www.boots.com/.
Click here to view No7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser on the Boots website.

No7 Airbrush Away Primer - We all must have heard the hype about primers by now. I already owned a couple before getting this one, but I knew this one would give the best results (although my Avon MagiX Face Perfector comes in at a close second). Without a doubt, using a primer will give you make up a better base to be applied to. When using this one I noticed that my pores appears minimised, imperfections such as uneven skin tone seemed to fade, and it gave my face a matte finish, which gives a great "blank canvas" for your foundation. No7 say: "Magic away signs of aging with this clever primer, containing light diffusing particles, to make you look younger instantly, by putting fine lines and wrinkles into soft focus."

No7 Airbrush Away Primer is available for £19.50 from Boots stores or online at http://www.boots.com/.

3x Avon SuperShock products; Gel eyeliner, pencil eyeliner, mascara; reviews + photos

© Tuesday T. Bryan Photography
DO NOT USE IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION. Copyrighted material

There are quite a lot of products in Avon's SuperShock range, and I have three of them; SuperShock Eyeliner in "Blackened Metal", SuperShock Gel Eyeliner Pencil in "Black", and SuperShock Mascara in "Black" in the limited edition packaging. So I thought I'd give them all a review in one blog.

First I want to share my thoughts on my favorite product of the three, my SuperShock Eyeliner in "Blackened Metal". I'd heard good things about it from friends, and I can see why! Its a gel eyeliner which comes in a little glass pot, and is currently available in three metallic shades; "Blackened Metal" is a very dark grey/black packed with silver shimmer (see my "swatch photo" below), "Shimmering Sapphire" is cobalt blue with light blue sparkles, and "Flashy Brown" is a metallic shade medium-dark brown/bronze.

I went for "Blackened Metal" as I'm not a fan of bright eye make up on myself. I wish this product was available in matte black - I can't fault this shade at all, but it would be nice to have it in plain black, too. Anyway, I really love how build-able this shade is. When first applied it's fairly light and translucent, but when you layer it up it becomes a gorgeous dramatic dark grey / "almost black", packed full of sparkling silver shimmer, I love it!
I can't explain how good the wear is; I work 18 hour days, and it looks just as stunning at the start of my day as it does at the end... it doesn't even need any touch ups! It's also smudge-proof and crease-proof. The formula is silky-smooth, but it does feel quite greasy on your hands and it's a pain to get off your skin and brushes with water alone (so try not to make a mess with it!).
Obviously you'll need an eyeliner brush to apply this product. A brush isn't supplied, but Avon do sell one separately for £4.00. My assistant's sister uses Avon's eyeliner brush and tells me it's good, but I use my MAC 263 Small Angle Brush which is available for £16.00 from the MAC website.
Avon SuperShock Eyeliner is available from your Avon representative for £6.00.

Now it's time to discuss the eyeliner pencil, Avon SuperShock Gel Eyeliner Pencil in "Black".
Although I do like this product, I personally don't think it's as good as the SuperShock Eyeliner. If they made  the SuperShock Eyeliner in this deep matte black I'd buy it in a shot!
On your skin this liner lasts all day, the wear is fantasic. Again, it's completely smudge-proof and crease-proof. However, on your waterline this product just doesn't work for me; it fades and begins to run very quickly, and literally within minutes I have no liner left on the corners of my waterline at all which is disappointing. Again, this product is silky-smooth but quite greasy; you need to be careful not to make a mess with it as it's almost impossible to remove with water alone, in fact it's even more difficult to remove than the SuperShock Eyeliner due to the dark shade. The pencil is very soft which makes the application smooth and drag-free, but it also means it wears down fairly quickly so you'll need to sharpen it quite a lot.

Lastly, my Avon SuperShock Mascara in "Black". They only sell this product in black, but that's no problem for me. They also sell a SuperShock Max version which I'd like to get my hands on! I bought it a couple of months ago in the limited edition packaging; it's metallic red with gold writing and stars and really is quite pretty, now and then they sell it online and in the brochure for a limited period.
This is a volume boosting mascara, and it really does work. I have fairly short lashes and they're quite thick anyway, so I usually go for a lengthening product, but I'd heard great things about this one so I had to give it a go. It thickens my lashes really well! And it coats my lashes for root to tip which gives me a nice dark lash line without eyeliner. It doesn't clump which is always a winner. It also dries very quickly - my "everyday mascara" was Maybelline Great Lash for about 2 years as it was an all-round beauty bar the fact that it took too long to dry which could lead to it getting messy, but Avon SuperShock (and my No7 Extreme Length Mascara) have now replaced it! The photos show the thickness and length of my lashes after using Avon SuperShock Mascara.
Avon SuperShock Mascara is available from your Avon representative for £8.50.
