Seggin Bees; Sweet skincare products including my favourite lip balm ever!

Louise Sheppard is the lady behind Seggin Bees. From Honey Fudge to soap bars, everything Louise sells is handmade using honey from the hives in her garden in Leominster, Herefordshire. Products can be purchased online and from the “In A Nutshell” shop in Leominster, and the Seggin Bees team can often be found at various local craft fairs where they will be happy for you to test, taste, and take home their produce and educate you about their little artisan business. Visit the website to see where they’ll be popping up next! http://www.segginbees.luston.org.uk/html

Today I’ll be focusing on their skincare products, starting with three popular soaps from the ever growing range! Seggin Bees are members of The Guild Of Craft Soap and Toiletry Makers. All of their soaps are crafted by hand using the tradition Cold Press Method, which is a natural, heat-free process which takes over a month. Their soaps are made using local ingredients, many of which are from their garden (you can’t get much more local than that!), including their own beeswax and honey, flowers, and herbs to provide natural texture, aroma, and nourishment. They are completely free from SLS, SLES, and Parabens, making them suitable for use on even the most sensitive skin types.

First up is the Dancing Bee Honeycomb Soap. This bar is presented in a pretty draw-string gift bag, tied with yellow ribbon and a cute little Bumble Bee bead – an ideal gift! The soap is moulded to resemble a piece of honeycomb, which not only looks interesting and attractive, but it also gives the bar an exfoliating surface which helps to cleanse the skin and gives you a mini-massage, excellent for soothing tired, achy muscles after a long day! I love to rub it on the shoulders and the back of the neck. It has a gentle formula that is kind enough to use all over the body and it’s strongly scented with sweet Herefordshire honey – delicious!

Dancing Bee Goats’ Milk, Honey and Calendula Soap is perfect for sensitive skin and those suffering from skin conditions as it contains anti-inflammatory Calendula. This clever ingredient helps sooth irritated skin, while honey and goats’ milk hydrates dry areas. This soap is well worth trying if you’re looking for a natural product to help improve conditions such as Eczema and Psoriasis, or if you have very sensitive or extremely dry skin. This pretty bar is flecked with Calendula petals and rustically presented – a true artisan beauty!

Dancing Bee Honey and Lemongrass Soap is my favourite of the three soaps I’m featuring today. I love products with sharp zing scents, and I also adore the aroma of honey, and this soap has both! It’s citrus fragrance is provided by refreshing lemongrass which helps to balance the skin and control sebum levels, excess shine, and blemishes. The reinvigorating scent is provides a perfect pick-me-up to help revive the senses, so it’s ideal for your morning skincare routine! The formula is also infused with nourishing honey to soften the skin, and exfoliating poppy seeds to buff away dry cells and reveal a glowing complexion. It’s non-floral scent makes it ideal for the guys and girls!

For sorry skin that’s in need of a little extra TLC, why not try Seggin Bees’ Dancing Bee Skin Balm? This hard-working product is ideal for soothing and repairing dry hands, irritated areas, and damaged skin. The waterproof formula contains a combination of skin-loving natural ingredients including beeswax, eucalyptus, fragrant rosemary, softening almond oil and olive oil, and healing tea tree. The solid balm melts into a creamy consistency on contact with the skin and is quickly absorbed.

Finally, my favourite Seggin Bees product, the Dancing Bee Lip Balm. It is honestly the best lip balm I’ve ever used, and I cannot rave about this little lip saviour enough! Everything about this balm is just perfect. It is presented as a stick (like a lipstick bullet), rather than in a tin, which I find much more useful as it’s easy to open and apply as they don’t jam (and are much more simple to use when you’ve got wet nails). Just a touch

goes a really long way. It has a super-soft, buttery texture which I just adore. It not only provides the lips with intense nutrients and fast deep hydration, but it also gives them a glossy sheen. The fact that this product is all natural means you don’t get any unpleasant scent or chemically taste, in fact you get rather the opposite! It gives the tempting scent of sticky sweet honey and doesn’t leave any taste on the lips. It’s creamy formula includes some of nature’s finest moisturisers; beeswax, cocoa butter, coconut oil, and Vitamin E. I fell in love with this balm from the first application, and I’m sure you will love it, too!

The Seggin Bees range also includes a number of delicious sweet treats such as their award-winning Honey Fudge, pots of yummy honey from their own hives, and tasty Honey Mustard. They also stock handmade bits and pieces for beehives which can all be found online.

Enchanted Plants; Handmade treats from the Dorset-based skincare company.

It’s great to think natural when it comes to skincare. Many commercial products contain a vast array of potentially harmful chemicals that could actually damage the skin rather than improve it. You need to know your ingredients. Most of us slap this stuff on our skin without even glancing at the seemingly infinite list of ingredients. And do we even know what half of these scientific-sounding substances do? Personally, I can’t even pronounce most of them, and just trying to read the endless list of components these drugstore formulas contain brings on a headache. So, it seems a safe and easy way to avoid the risky side-effects of these chemical compounds is to go natural – it seems that “less is more” when it comes to organic skincare.

Jemma Cannon is the expert behind Dorset-based skincare company, Enchanted Plants. As the name suggests, she makes the most out of all the beneficial delights that the natural world has to offer. Why not visit her Shaftesbury shop? You’ll discover a vast selection of tempting treats to pamper you all over, from scented soaps to luxurious lotions. You’ll find no frightening fusions of baffling scientific synthetics here! You can also shop for their goodies on the Enchanted Plants website. So forget those commercial chemical-packed catastrophes - organic and natural is the way to go!
I’m particularly fond of the Enchanted Plants organic handmade soap bars. I love their rustic appearance – no two bars are the same, and they have a certain charm about them which you just don’t get with a mass-produced product. I use the English Chamomile, Lavender, Dorset Honey and Oat Organic Soap. It’s fantastically fragrant. The first scent I detected was the honey – it’s unmistakable aroma smells good enough to eat! If you find your skin plays up to fragranced products then gives this one a whirl. The gentle ingredients make this soap suitable for skin suffering from irritation and sensitivity (it’s even kind enough for babies’ skin!).

For all-over cleansing, the Rose Geranium and Rosemary Organic Liquid Soap is a supreme choice. It’s fit for the hands and body, so you can pop it by the basin for an everyday hand wash and use it as a shower gel, too. It’s available in two generous sizes (and in a gift set) and a little goes a long way, so it’s easy on the bank account, too! Just a small amount from the handy pump-bottle works up a rich cleansing lather. Enchanted Plants believe in using the finest quality ingredients, and this versatile soap is no exception. And, of course, it’s beautifully fragrant. It’s calming aroma transforms everyday cleansing into a relaxing treat for the senses.
The Rose Geranium and Rosemary Hand and Body Lotion is the perfect product to use following the matching liquid soap. Just a touch of the magnificently moisturising formula is quickly absorbed into the skin leaving it feeling silky smooth and baby-soft. Aloe, Shea Butter and Flax Seed are the elements that work effectively to sooth and soften the skin whilst providing essential nutrients and hydration, and Rose Geranium and Rosemary oils give it’s fresh and pure herbal fragrance.
The Rose Geranium and Rosemary Organic Liquid Soap and Hand and Body Lotion can be purchased as a prettily packaged set, the perfect gift for any organic-enthusiast or beauty-addict.

Bramley; Nature-inspired Somerset skincare; my thoughts + photos!!

We all like to keep on the look-out for local produce, but not many of us think beyond what we eat. There are many toiletries and beauty products available that are produced right on our doorsteps.
Hand made in Somerset, the Bramley range consists of high-quality nature-inspired delights to pamper you from head-to-toe. The mastermind behind these indulgent treats is ChloĂ« Luxton. She’s no stranger to developing bath and body products, and she’s poured her knowledge and experience into perfecting the Bramley range. The products have a strong connection with nature, from containing the finest essential oils and natural botanicals on the inside, to the eco-friendly packaging and pretty floral labels on the outside.

On the Bramley website you will find a wide range of single products, as well as gift setstravel-sized miniatureswash bags, and even an all-natural fragranced candle scented with uplifting rose and spearmint. A personal favorite of mine has to be the hand cream. It left my hands feeling irresistibly soft and silky smooth, and the zingy grapefruit fragrance is like a burst of sunshine to the senses. It’s the perfect product to follow Bramely’s hand wash, which smells sublime as well as having important antibacterial properties. You’ll also find a range of products to cleanse and indulge the body. A relaxing bath with Bramley’s sweet orange and lavender bubble bath with a sprinkling of lavender and geranium bath salts is sure to help you unwind. If you’re more of a “shower person”, don’t despair! The invigorating mandarin and lemongrass body wash is sure to keep everyone happy. After cleansing, treat yourself to the Bramley body lotion, developed to detoxify and hydrate the skin (tip: excess water will only dilute your moisturising product, so make sure the skin is not too wet before application).
I’m also a fan of the hair care products. The cleansing shampoo’s rich rosemary and lemon-scented lather is sure to keep your hair squeaky-clean, and the balancing conditioner will keep your hair looking healthy and smelling fresh-as-a-daisy!

It’s safe to say that I’m a lover of these little citrus-scented luxuries. The range was originally designed for the guests of The Beckford Arms, Wiltshire, but they are now available for us all to enjoy. To purchase and for more information visit www.bramleyproducts.co.uk.

Greenfibres; Organic Terry Cotton Wash Cloth & Muslin Face Cloth; review + photos!!

© Tuesday T. Bryan Photography
DO NOT USE IMAGES WITHOUT PERMISSION. Copyrighted material
Totnes in Devon has been home to “Eco Pioneers”, Greenfibres, since 1996. The business was founded with the aim to promote organic, natural, and traditional fabrics, and they are still producing high quality eco-friendly products to this day.

Caring for the environment is paramount to Greenfibres. They are a member of the FSB, a founding member of the Organic Trade Board, and a licensee of The Soil Association. Their passion for our planet is apparent in everything from their understated recycled packaging, to their divine environmentally-friendly produce.
Their values are somewhat heart-warming. The soft, delicate organic cotton is grown according to G.T.O.S (or “Global Organic Textile Standards”), and their produce is manufactured under fair and safe working conditions. Using products like these really does help to make a difference to the world and it’s inhabitants, benefiting not only your body, but also the environment and your peace-of-mind.

You can certainly feel the quality of the products. The soft-as-a-feather Organic Terry Cotton Wash Cloth not only feels divine on even the most sensitive of skin types, but it’s practical, too. It absorbs liquid well, and it’s kind to the delicate facial skin. After use, I just wring it out and pop it over a warm radiator to dry. I not only use mine to wash with, but I also soak it in hot water and hold it about four inches away from the face for a few minutes, letting the steam work it’s magic and cleanse deep into the pores. It’s great for giving your face a “deep cleaning session”, and it’s ever so relaxing.
The Organic Cotton Muslin Face Cloth is another handy item to keep in your wash bag. Muslin cloths can be used in various skin routines. I use mine to remove wet face masks, to wipe away excess facial cream, and to help work products into the skin. The unique texture of this versatile fabric also makes it ideal for using as a gentle “exfoliating cloth”.

Orchard View Naturals Capsule Collection; review + photos.

© Tuesday T. Bryan Photography

Orchard View Naturals is a small independent business based in Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset, and ran by Lucy Stevens MFHT (Member of The Federation of Holistic Therapists).

Today I'd like to share my thought on their Capsule Collection, a bundle of five facial oils to help improve an array of skin types and problems. Maybe people have given fabulous feedback and excellent reviews, and I am no exception!! Of course, each of them smell simply divine and leave the skin feeling supple and soft-as-a-feather. A little of these potent oils will go a long way, so you can be sure that this collection will last you a good while.

Please note that a Patch Test is suggested 24 hours before use (just as you'd test a hair colourant), especially if you have sensitive skin.

My delivery arrived safely packaged and beautifully wrapped (it was so pretty that I photographed it after every stage of unwrapping!!). In the pack are five vials of essential facial oils; Rose Geranium, Orange Blossom, Triple Rose, Tea Tree, and Infused Marigold. Also included are various leaflets and information containing everything that one could possibly need to know about the oils, the business, and directions for use.

Sixteen skin types are listed in a helpful guidance leaflet, all of which can be helped by one or more of these five essential oils. Well-known skin types such as dry, sensitive, combination, and normal skin can all benefit from them, but they can also improve problems such as dullness, acne, large pores, and sun damage. "Listen to your skin" and use the simple guide to help use the correct oils when required.

My first choice was the Rose Geranium Facial Oil, as it's recommended for use on combination skin, like mine. I instantly fell in love with the pungent exotic aroma, it's so refreshing and uplifting. After use, my skin felt softer and smoother. Shine was instantly banished and replaced with a healthy luminous glow.

Another personal favorite is the zingy, invigorating scent of the Orange Blossom Facial Oil. It helps to boost the skin's moisture levels, as well as having the ability to improve the condition of aging skin, large pores, and sun damage, and it's fragrance is bound to lighten your mood on even the dullest of days.
The freshly-fragranced Triple Rose Facial Oil is recommended for use on dry, dehydrated, and dull skin to provide intense hydration. It leaves the skin feeling deeply nourished and looking healthier.
Tea Tree oil is renowned for it's impressive array of benefits to the skin, and OV Naturals suggest it for use on ten of the sixteen listed skin types. It seems to be something of a miracle-product.
The Infused Marigold Oil can also be used to treat a range of dilemmas. It too is recommended for use on ten of the sixteen listed skin types, including sensitive skin, which can be hard to treat correctly.
Please remember that a Patch Test is recommended 24 hours before use when using products on sensitive skin.

Not only do OV Naturals care for the body and soul, but they are also passionate about protecting our planet. All of the products are 100% natural and 99.5% organic, and everything is cruelty-free. Caring for the environment is important to OV Naturals, so all packaging and paper is recycled and locally sourced where possible, and glass bottles used are recyclable, which is bound to help put your mind at ease.

Needless to say, I've thoroughly enjoyed using my Orchard View Naturals Capsule Collection. To get yours and for information on more products and services from OV Naturals, including massages and gift vouchers, visit www.OVnaturals.co.uk or call 01460 240234.
